Today Stereogum premiered the first track from the upcoming new album from The Mountain Goats entitled All Eternal’s Deck.
The song, “Damn These Vampires,” is everything you could wish for in a Mountain Goats song: tuneful, beautiful, and full of interesting imagery delivered in John Darnielle’s enthusiastic voice. It’s nowhere near the death metal sound that we might be expecting to hear on a couple of the tracks on the new album.
Darnielle tells Stereogum that the title of the album refers to “an apocryphal tarot deck” and that kind of fantastical theme runs through this song. Check it out at Stereogum or stream it below.
