Korean DIY artist nijuu sucks us in with “BLUE”

nijuu is a London-based South Korean transplant, who makes DIY bedroom pop that incorporates plenty of field recordings with her weightless style. On June 25 she’s going to be releasing her debut EP nijuu in the sea. She introduces us to her aquatic dream world, saying:

“The sea is my world. It’s both my consolation and my limitation. Since I was fourteen, I’ve been thinking the entire world is the sea. I imagined I might be a fish but I live on the ground. Or I might be a person and everyone else is a sea creature. The water always made me feel free. But it has another meaning to me. We were in the water in our mum’s womb, but after we’re born, we can’t breathe underwater.”

Today she has shared the opening track of nijuu in the sea, which is called “BLUE”, a song which gently lowers you down into the swishing sounds of nijuu’s mind. Using twinkling pianos and vocal filters to simple but enticing ends, “BLUE” is so subtly engrossing that by the end of the brief song you’ll suddenly find yourself completely submerged, safe and ready to float away.

nijuu’s debut EP nijuu in the sea will be released on June 25 via State51 Conspiracy. You can follow her on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
