Jimmy Chamberlin Quits The Smashing Pumpkins

The Smashing Pumpkins

It has been announced via a statement on the band’s website that Jimmy Chamberlin, the drummer of The Smashing Pumpkins, has quite the band leaving singer Billy Corgan as the only founding member in the band.

The statement reads:

“The SMASHING PUMPKINS’ guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member Billy Corgan has announced that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the group. Chamberlin joined the band Corgan founded in Chicago in 1988 and played on all their albums except Adore (1998). Corgan will continue to write and record as SMASHING PUMPKINS with plans to head into the studio this spring.”

It certainly sounds like an acrimonious split. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear more about it in the lyrics of the next LP by “The Smashing Pumpkins”.
