Jay-Z and Whitney Houston continue to dominate

Jay-Z tops Billboard chart again

The Blueprint 3

In a week seeing the release of two highly anticipated albums — Muse’s The Resistance and Kid Cudi’s debut Man On The Moon — the top two spots were, perhaps surprisingly, occupied again by two massive releases from weeks past.

Jay Z’s The Blueprint 3, selling roughly 300,000 copies in its second week, kept the top spot, while Whitney Houston’s comeback album actually climbed a spot in its third week, selling around 150,000 copies, to No. 2.  The aforementioned new releases  hit No. 3 and No. 4 respectively, each selling over 100,000 copies.

Muse would appear to have reason to celebrate; as Billboard notes, their previous best first-week sales were 48,000, which The Resistance managed to nearly triple.

The chart was rounded out by EPs from Miley Cyrus, Drake, album releases from Lil’ Boosie and Megadeth, and Top 10 stalwarts Taylor Swift and Black-Eyed Peas.
