Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? frolic and fright on “In Tangerine”

Wait a second. Have notorious Finnish garage rock-pranksters Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? taken an artistic left turn into dark-ambient wave!? The first minute of “In Tangerine” certainly leads you to believe it, if only just for a second. Like a sort of inverse jump scare, the song springs from eerie, creepy-crawly horror scapes into a full-on sugar-rushed party anthem.

As if the rather ridiculously verbose band name wasn’t a tell, the song’s video is shot in gloriously diffused early-zeroes soap opera aesthetic. Indeed, “In Tangerine” is the perfect blast to kick the weekend into full gear, expressing a sort of ultimate escapist joy that you can’t help but love.

The band say: โ€œIn Tangerine raves in all of its punk-rock playfulness, but at the heart is a yearning for the place where one can just be, and there is no hurry anywhere. There’s also some 90’s nostalgia, I guess. Remember to watch Seinfeld and take it easy, fellows.โ€
