Angel Olsen shares the languid contemplation “Forever Means”

Angel Olsen is releasing a new EP called Forever Means this Friday, and today she’s treating us by sharing the title track ahead of time.

She previously shared the moody, jazz-inflected “Nothing’s Free”, and that song’s languid pace continues into “Forever Means”. However, this time it’s just Olsen and her voice in an atmospheric recording that makes the space around her seem to slow down as she carefully and tenderly lays down a quiet confession-turned-contemplation. It’s a long-view of life, belief and love, delivered with Olsen’s trademark ability to discuss grand concepts in ineffibly personal and eminently empathetic ways. “Forever means always looking / Forever means trying to see / Forever means saying what’s on your mind / Forever means make sure, take your time” she mulls in the song’s refrain, boiling down a life’s worth of existential pondering into simple but weighty poetry. Like all the best songwriters, she prompts us all to go into our own reveries on the meaning and value of the time we have in life.
