AlienBlaze dishes tough love on “Enemies With Benefits”

AlienBlaze is a fiercely talented, 20-year-old UK songwriter and lead guitarist whose new single “Enemies With Benefits” is edgy, angsty and irresistible.

She’s on the Sumerian Records label, but there aren’t any Sumerian kings or deities like Gilgamesh and Ishtar on the roster – just some standout acts like Veil of Maya and Poppy. To the best of my knowledge, the label is the only place on the internet where you can order death-metal weed grinders.

AlienBlaze has received compliments from artists like Grimes and Wolf Alice’s Ellie Rowsell – and her music is indeed reminiscent of Wolf Alice at its best. Like Rowsell, AlienBlaze knows how to turn a song title into a mesmerizing hook. For example, the way she sings the chorus of last year’s “Not Yours Never Was” completely tattoos the title deep inside your brain. She’s also a fabulous guitar player.

The new single has malevolent attitude to spare, with lines like “I want to stamp all over your ego with my platform heel” and “I’ll break a champagne glass over your head.” But AlienBlaze’s bark is worse than her bite – and “Enemies With Benefits” is a sonic delight and a great addition to your autumn playlist.
