Alice Boman spells out her adoration in twinkling tones on “Night and Day”, announces new album

Swedish songwriter Alice Boman will release a new album called The Space Between on October 21 through PIAS. It was produced alongside Patrik Berger (Robyn, Lana Del Rey) and boasts a guest appearance from Perfume Genius. Today she shares the track “Night and Day”, saying:

“To me — this is one of the most direct songs on the album. It is special to me. I am singing about the beginning of a relationship. About the moment when you are able to let go of the resistance (there due to experiences in the past) and give in to love completely. And to then be present and totally immersed in this other person and in the desire to be together.”

While the notion of wanting to be with someone “all the time / night and day” could be construed as clingy (or worse), there is such wonder in Boman’s voice and such tenderness in the instrumentation that it could never be mistaken for anything but pure-hearted infatuation, the earliest blossoms of a potential love. Around Boman’s breathily intimate words and voice are carefully arranged organ, twinkling keys and shuffling drums. It all coalesces to create a warm and gentle safe space, where desires and dreams can be expressed freely, without fear of shame or judgement. It’s a pure delight to step into such a world with Boman.

The video for “Night and Day”, directed by Jeanne Lula Chauveau, brings the theme of tender intimacy to the fore. Take a look below or listen to the song on streaming platforms.
