It’s been a busy year for Julia Holter; she released Ekstasis back in March (which we enjoyed plenty), has toured persistently since with the likes of Sigur Ros, and signed to Domino in the meantime. By now you’d think she’d be slowing down, but as our calendars flick to the final month of the year Holter seems set to persist with her diligent work right through into the new year.
Firstly she has announced that an expanded edition of Ekstasis will be released on December 11th. The expanded edition comes with the original 10 tracks plus a new 5 track bonus release called Live From Beaudry, recorded with cellist Heather McIntosh, who has previously worked with Animal Collective and Gnarls Barkley.
Holter has also teamed up with director Yelena Zhelezov to create a video for one of Ekstasis‘ stand out tracks “Goddess Eyes II.” The visually striking video starts with Holter’s head poking through a hole and into a miniature world of strangely shaped models and plastic people. And well, what happens from there you’ll just have to find out by watching below.
Finally you can hear Holter’s contribution to MOJO Magazine’s tribute to Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours. Holter has recorded a divine version of the album’s closing track “Gold Dust Woman,” which can also be heard below.
