Adding to an exhausting list of covers and remixes of XX, Hercules & Love Affair have taken their glam-disco sound to The XX‘s “Shelter.” Kim Ann Foxman certainly does her best Romy, as Foxman’s voice on the cover is just as haunting and sexy as the original. But it’s the filtered synths and soft piano keys that truly make this difference in Hercules & Love Affair’s version. Sure it’s still a late night make out jam, no doubt, but this cover doesn’t have that depressing and guilty resonance that I can’t help but hear on every XX track. Too bad most of Blue Songs wasn’t this spectacular. [via]
