The one-woman songstress behind 2009’s phenomenal BiRd-BrAiNs, Merrill Garbus, is back with a new record and a huge spring tour. w h o k i l l, out April 19th on 4AD, features more of the same vibrance and liveliness that BiRd-BrAiNs had along with a more studio polished sound. In a recent feature for Pitchfork, the outlet called it an “upbeat exuberance of Vampire Weekend with some of Jamie Lidell’s oddball funk and maybe even a few Bobby McFerrin vocal tricks.” It’s high praise, but also well deserved, as tUnE-yArDs distinct sound has catapulted Garbus’ career.
tUnE-yArDs will also embark on a massive tour of North America this spring, starting in April. I had the pleasure of seeing Garbus open for The Dirty Projectors on their last tour, and I can say for sure that her shows are not to be missed. Not only is the way she constructs her music on stage amazing, but she’s rather forthcoming and funny in the process. Check out all the dates below:
