After some success with her 2021 Hurt Is Boring EP, Hannah Judge – aka fanclubwallet – is finally releasing her debut album. Wonderfully entitled You Have Got To Be Kidding Me, the album collects together 12 tracks Judge started writing two years ago, including previous single “That I Won’t Do”. To add to that track is her new single “Gr8 Timing!”, an infectious and compact bop full of deadpan sentiments and staccato guitar licks. Of the song Judge says:
“I wrote ‘Gr8 Timing!’ while reflecting upon some things that were said to me during a breakup. It’s about realizing that everyone has a mean streak (even yourself!) and sort of a self reflection on the lies you can tell yourself in a relationship to convince yourself that someone is good for you – even if they’re not!“
There’s an air of hurt lingering in Judge’s delivery, but she almost delivers her words with a tongue in her cheek – even when she’s being quietly devastating. “Not great timing on your part / Nice till it’s proven you’re not / Not sure how I was convinced / You’re not like him,” she concludes with an air of acceptance in the chorus. Surrounded by an extremely likeable collection of guitar fritzing alongside a chipper line of hi-hats, “Gr8 Timing!” seems to come almost naturally to Judge and her bandmates – something captured all too well in the accompanying video, where the band wear themselves out at a trampoline park with a joyous, kiddish energy.
