Jeff Mangum to play at Benefit Concert for Chris Knox

Downtown Manhattan concert hall, Le Poisson Rouge will be hosting a benefit show on May 6th., for New Zealand’s father of punk Chris Knox, who suffered a series of strokes last year.

Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel will be one of the performances at the show, and will be playing a “very short acoustic set.” As stated by the show’s publicist Mangum “is doing the show specifically to help raise money for his close friend and it’s not the start of a comeback.” Jeff Mangum playing a live set anywhere is an extremely rare event in itself.

The other bands playing at the benefit concert will be Yo La Tengo, TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone, Protastatic, percussionist of the Magnetic Fields Claudia Gonson. Sharon Van Etten, New Zealanders Robert Scott and David Kilgour of the Clean, will also be performing solo sets.

Parts of the show will be recorded and broadcasted on WFMU and New Zealand radio stations. Tickets go on sale March 30th.
