Genre-blending newcomer Terry Presume shares giddy video for new single, “ZaZa and Some Runtz (Smoke Break)”

A challenge: try to define Terry Presume. You simply can’t do it. The Naples, Florida native grew up surrounded by numerous, distinct musical cultures: the Kompa music of his Haitian single mother, the classic Soul of other adults in his community, and the inevitable 50 Cent and Eminem songs that dominated the block at the time. Over time, all these sounds and more blended within his young mind.

It’s lucky they did, because as a young adult he’s continued to mix and match his influences all the more, arriving with a delightful concoction all his own. He’s as comfortable rapping as he is with funky crooning, with a particularly conversational, almost casual singing style.

His latest single, the hazy “ZaZa and Some Runtz (Smoke Break)” is the perfect representation of his genre-blending ways, as well as being a complete and total slice of pure delight. He says:

“Coincidentally (and I don’t believe in coincidences) this video was made in the same fashion as the song was, in the spur of a marijuana induced moment.”

Check its video out below, directed by BROCKHAMPTON collaborator Spencer Ford, and stay tuned for more from Presume very soon.
