A month or so ago, Floating Points and Pharoah Sanders let slip that they’d recorded a new album together – with the help of the London Symphony Orchestra – by means of a 27 second ‘preface’. Well, while they still haven’t given us a full ‘song’ or ‘movement’ from Promises, which comes out on March 26, they have now given us a whole bunch more info and a longer clip of what’s to come.
The new “Promises: Prologue” is a four minute journey into the album’s creation, with a slideshow of images from its creation – Sam Shepherd and Pharoah in the studio, the LSO being conducted – while the album’s credits are read out over a gorgeous excerpt from Promises. It is at once a very exciting taste of what’s sure to be a glorious record, and a painful tease because you just want to hear the whole thing! For those who don’t have the patience to wait until next Friday to hear Promises in full – and who could blame you – then check out the “Promises: Prologue” below.
Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & the London Symphony Orchestra’s Promises comes out next Friday, March 26, via Luaka Bop – more info and pre-orders available here. There’s also a ‘non-visual experience’ of “Promises: Chapter I” coming this Sunday, which you can RSVP to on that site.
