British art-poppers Django Django recently returned with the excellent “Spirals”, and today have followed it up with the news of a new album called Glowing in the Dark, arriving on February 12.
They have also shared the title track from the record, which might be their most overtly danceable track yet. Comparisons to Hot Chip will surely abound, not just because the title “Glowing in the Dark” is very similar to “Made in the Dark”, but because their song possesses the same kind of indie-guys-go-raving charm. As confident and stylish as the song is, Vincent Neff leads the way with a paranoid and uncertain mind, winding its way between the slick beats and polished synths. It’s almost as if he’s quickly coming up, grasping on to what he knows for sure, before he gets the full hit in the chorus, which pinwheels with sheer elation and bursts with new life at the realision “now we’re glowing in the dark!”
The video for “Glowing in the Dark” was created with NYC artist and illustrator Braulio Amadio, who remotely directed the band’s singer. Neff says:
“He gave me some loose directions of what he wanted me to do via email. Then me and my brother in law got a tripod, my phone and a speaker and went to a deserted industrial estate around the back of my house and shot a bunch of stuff then turned the footage over to Braulio. We love what he’s done with it and how the energy and vibe of the visuals really lock with the track.”
