Three years on from their last full length King of the Beach, Nathan Williams and Stephen Pope’s surf rock project Wavves return with Afriad of Heights on March 26th. The album will be released on Mom + Pop Records, and you can see the cover art above.
Talking about the sound and inspiration on Afriad of Heights, Williams says:
“The general theme of the record is depression and anxiety, being death-obsessed and paranoid of impending doom. I feel like the narration is almost schizophrenic if you listen front to back; every word is important, even the constant contradictions and lack of self-worth. That’s all a part of this record-questioning everything not because I’m curious, but because I’m paranoid.”
We already heard opening track “Sail to the Sun” a while back, but you can get another taste of that depression, anxiety, death obsessiveness and paranoia that Williams mentions by streaming new single “Demon To Lean On”; both tracks are below.
