As we reported in our Most Anticipated Albums of 2012 feature, we’re expecting a new album from the Mountain Goats this year, and the band are currently on tour road testing material from it. Rolling Stone has a nice interview with John Darnielle about how the new songs are coming along, and he tells them that even though he’s just become a father we won’t be getting any schmaltzy material, rather we’ll be getting a ‘Satan record.’ This claim is backed up by the fact that they have a new song called “In Memory Of Satan.” Darnielle has also told Rolling Stone about three more new songs called “Transcendental Youth” (which is also the tentative title for the album), “Night Light” and “Diaz Brothers.” Upon searching YouTube it appears that only the last of those songs has found its way onto the net thus far and we have it for you below. It’s an upbeat barroom rocker sure to liven up any situation. We’ll be keeping an eye out for the others as the tour progresses so make sure to check back soon.
