Listen: GREYJOY – “Distance” / “Idle Thoughts”

Greyjoy

Chances are you won’t have heard of GREYJOY before. They Australian duo of Karlin Courtney and Matt Crockett have been tinkering away, creating music for over a year, but now, as the summer of 2013 approaches, they’ve decided to share their first effort. And they probably couldn’t have chosen a better time to do so: “Distance” is the kind of track you’d be happy to let lead you into all the summer joy. Evocative of 90’s Britpop, song title-dropping of Death Cab for Cutie (“Tiny Vessels”), somewhat similar to French quartet Phoenix, and with a little something extra I can’t quite put my finger on at this given moment, they’ve got plenty going for them.

Also on offer is the freshly-released “Idle Thoughts” which glimmers that bit more, but has plenty of reference points, like L.A. duo Kisses, but more spaced out. Listen below, and look out for the duo’s self-titled and self-released EP, due out on July 23rd.
