Young Summer scales new heights on latest single “Make Waves”

Young Summerโ€™s new single โ€œMake Wavesโ€ should have been the closing-credits song for the Oscar-winning movie The Shape Of Water. The video for the song (like the movie) involves a young woman falling in love with a reptilian creature. The music, however, has the tang of a Fleetwood Mac summer hit.

Young Summer is the stage name of Nashville artist Bobbie Allen, who has penned songs for artists like Ruston Kelly and Karen Elson. Her pandemic-delayed sophomore LP is slated for release this fall.

Says the artist: โ€œโ€˜Make Wavesโ€™ is a love song about letting go of control and being ok with whatever happens next, something that can be incredibly hard to do. For a lot of us, it can be rare that we let ourselves be fully vulnerable but when we do itโ€™s euphoric. The production is meant to be hypnotic and evoke the feeling of letting go and it keeps you there as each section gets increasingly dreamy. The song is like a spell being cast. โ€˜Make Wavesโ€™ is evidence that Iโ€™ve, at least once, truly let go and the song is my trail of breadcrumbs. It can help guide me back when I need it.โ€
