Viennese wonky-R&B producer Wandl has a new album called Womb coming out on October 2, following up his great 2017 record It’s All Good Tho. Having already shared lead single “Double Exposure”, this week he gives us a second taste with “Altbautraum”.
On the new track, Wandl creates a heavy-yet-blissful atmosphere, like a slovenly breeze through a tripped-out daydream. He revels in highs both chemical and natural, using a fine mesh of electronic layers over patient percussion to characterise the weight of the intoxication pressing down, but the vocals and atmospheric effects lift us into a buzzing high as well. Vocally, Wandl is lost in a Xanax-induced reverie that is made all the more swoon-worthy by his devotion to someone special: “you drug me out,” he admits – perhaps it’s not a healthy feeling, but it sure sounds good in “Altbautraum”.
