Video Premiere: Decomposure – “Wide Awake”

Ontario-based graphic artist Caleb Mueller (aka Decomposure) has just released his fifth album, Eating Chicken, via Blank Squirrel.  He describes himself as a “graphic designer by day, asleep by night. Somewhere between them, music happens.”  The new video for Eating Chicken-cut “Wide Awake” documents the painstakingly detailed process which goes into making the deluxe physical version of the record.  You really need to watch the video to understand the attention to detail and care that goes in to each of these packages.  This version, sent to those who donated to his Kickstarter campaign, is also available through his bandcamp page here.

“Wide Awake” lays a somber piano line against a thudding, metallic beat which fades in and out behind Mueller’s airy vocals.  The song turns quickly and builds to a clanging percussive cacophony, which then disintegrates, allowing his vocals to glide in and cushion the soft strains of what sounds like an ukulele.  This continues until the notes just seem to shimmer away into some intangible electronic ether.

Beats Per Minute is proud to premiere the video for “Wide Awake” from Decomposure.
