As we all, for the most part, sit inside day in and day out during the age of COVID, it’s hard not to feel ourselves aging even more acutely than usual. All that partying, concert-going, dating, and general living we should be doing? It hurts.
This makes The Casual Sexists‘ latest single “My Heartbeat Keeps Me Awake” all the more palpable. Frontwoman Varrick explains, “[It’s] a hymn to the anxiety of aging. Also, a slap in the face to that very same anxiety.“
It begins sparsely, hardly more than a blip and vocals, but gradually builds with swelling 808s and layered electronic grooves, morphing into a particularly danceable, riotous form of expression. It’s a particularly rich, exuberant taste of the group’s “frenetic” Avant-pop, and more than intoxicating.
We can only hope they’ll return with more soon, but for now, check out “My Heartbeat Keeps Me Awake” below.
The Casual Sexists’ debut album Your Prescription is Ready is out on May 7. You can find The Casual Sexists on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
