The All-American Rejects burst on the alternative scene in 2002, but they took a decade off from headlining until last year’s Wet Hot All-American Summer Tour. Now, the quartet has released a high-octane version of Harvey Danger’s “Flagpole Sitta”.
Reflecting on the new single, the band says, “We’ve always felt that if an idea survives a hangover, then it’s probably a good one. ‘Flagpole Sitta’ was such an idea, born of a late-night, post-show, adrenaline-fueled drive. We recorded it because we wanted to see how it would fall out of us on the floor – either like a hot bag of shit, or a vibe. It was also a good excuse to see if the four of us could stand each other for a week in the studio after seven years of silence. Turns out it was alright.”
The Rejects will play When We Were Young Fest in Las Vegas in a few weeks, alongside My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and many other notables from yesteryear.
“As for what comes next, we will leave that up to the divine feminine,” says the band. “If she wants it, she’ll get it.”
