California duo Sleep State took a five-year hiatus and have now returned with a new single โBEWARE!!!โ that has the potential to be an end-of-summer radio hit. Lead singer Troy Ritchie has a fabulous rock voice that reminds me a lot of Kings Of Leon warbler Caleb Followill.
Although their band name sounds like an insomnia clinic, Ritchie and bandmate Parker Jackson are a remarkably high-energy pair. The new single tackles a dark theme with uptempo optimism.
โWhether you’re overwhelmed by the mundanity of work or fed up with the stressors accompanied by modern day politics, we’ve all been at a low point where we’re โbarely feeling human; on the inside, despite our best efforts of trying to hide it on the outside,โ says Troy Ritchie.
โFor me, this is a very cathartic song. When Iโm enduring uncertain and miserable times, I’m still โhangin’ onโ with hope for better days. Singing out my internal dialogue and feelings through a catchy melody helps me feel human again and puts a lighter spin on whatโs happening. I’ve definitely put myself through some dark times but Iโm surrounding myself with great people and making notable changes to keep “steering clear of all the roads that I can’t come back from.โ
