Swedish songwriter shy martin (aka Sara Hjellstrรถm) is probably too modest to admit it, but she has all the ingredients needed to be an international mega-star. For starters, she has a dulcet voice that can put a listener into a reverie โ like on her new single โLate Night Thoughtsโ. Itโs the rhythmically sophisticated and inviting title track to her debut album that will arrive May 19.
The amazing thing is that martin isnโt a Scandinavian recluse. Sheโs written hit songs for artists like The Chainsmokers, Ellie Goulding and Jess Glyne.
Thereโs no reason for this amazing talent to feel shy. Her songs always connect emotionally โ and they start with unadorned simplicity before getting sonically richer mid-track. shyโs new album will be a trampoline that sends her career soaring.
Commenting on the album-making process, shy notes: โThere werenโt any rules. If something suited the song and I could deliver emotion, then that was enough. I wanted the album to sound raw, like I had recorded it in my bedroom. When I wrote the songs, it felt like a safe space, like we werenโt even working.โ
On the title track, shy martin says: “I donโt even know what genre it is and I donโt know what inspired it. It felt like a song that just happened. It felt different from other things Iโve written and thatโs what made it interesting to me.”
โLate Night Thoughtsโ is out now. Watch the lyric video below or find it on streamers.
