LA indie pop artist Ryn Nicole’s new single “Anxiety” chronicles what it’s like to be lonely in the city of Angels while her ex is half a world away in Thailand. The singer-songwriter, who recently featured on Berner’s rap single “Zoning”, delivers an ultra-convincing vocal and some of the best lyrics of the year, including “You been flyin’ overseas while I been stuck in the city calling Uber Eats.”
The artist recalls: “I was at home, sitting on my couch in the middle of one of those chaotic moments where you question everything you have done and are doing with your life, when my ex called me to catch up. He told me how great he’d been doing, that he’d finally gotten his passport, and that he and his girlfriend were headed to Thailand the next month to celebrate her birthday. It had been my dream for years to go to Asia. I wrote the song as soon as I got off the phone. The next day I booked a solo trip to Thailand.”
“Anxiety” soars thanks to Ryn’s hypnotic voice. “Two of my all-time favorite vocalists are Lauryn Hill and Hayley Williams of Paramore,” she says. “I love a unique-sounding vocal with a distinct texture.”
