It may not have truly been that long, but especially thanks to COVID having time move in slow motion, it’s felt like quite the wait for Roddy Rich’s sophomore LP. Ever since 2019’s Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, he’s been on a tear, gliding towards the upper echelons of rappers hailing from his generation.
Well, the wait is finally over: Rich has announced his approaching album, Live Life Fast (that’s its artwork above). To mark the occasion, he’s shared the project’s first single, a DJ Mustard production that might come as something of a surprise: it embraces his mellower, emotive side, with “Late at Night” feeling like the perfect soundtrack for a lonely, thoughtful drive. It shows essentially every side of Rich, ranging from sensitive singing to his punchy, direct raps.
The video, meanwhile, is a proper trip, beginning with a Ferris wheel in Rich’s backyard, and growing to range from science fiction (portals!) to horror (werewolves! [in an obvious nod to Michael Jackson, naturally]). Check it out below and look out for Live Life Fast come December 17th.
