Medium Build plays a risky game with the disarmingly earnest “comeonback”

When Medium Build, the moniker of Anchorage, Alaska based songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Nick Carpenter, sings, “Said it’s been a long day, you say, ‘yeah, a long week,’ I said ‘a long couple years”, it’s impossible not to feel it. Yet, this isn’t a song about the pandemic, but one of longing and desperation. It’s equally devastating when he sings, “I ain’t been sober in so goddamn long, but, yeah, give me something.”

It revels in the smallest of moments and gestures, as the narrator speaks to an individual who thinks it’s simply too late, insisting to the contrary, it’s never too late.

Speaking on the song, Carpenter shares, “‘comeonback’ is about friendship, forgiveness and checking our blind spots. I’ve been writing a bunch of love songs to friends and this one is the intersection of ‘I fucked up’ and ‘they fucked up.’ Like how do we proceed when we realize that neither of us are perfect? I used to wanna be perfect in every relationship. I’m learning how to be myself but not give up. Flawed but present.

It comes with a self-directed video, which you can check out below, or find the song via your favorite provider.
