Liverpool band King Hannah share muggy and gorgeous debut single and video “Crème Brûlée”

King Hannah are a Liverpool-based duo of Hannah Merrick and Craig Whittle, who have just been snapped up by European bastion of great taste City Slang (Caribou, Jessica Pratt). That fact alone says wonders, but their debut single “Crème Brûlée” says even more.

A song that slowly drifts on a river of thick bass and reflections of echoing guitar, “Crème Brûlée” is a perfect place for contemplation, which is exactly what Hannah brings. Unsurprisingly, she writes her words in the morning, when the day is anew and all the challenges and opportunities lay ahead – not to mention the desires that are reawakening within oneself. This is where we find her in the opening as she plaintively repeats “I need you so bad,” while the instrumental continues to expand, like her imagination stretching out across the city in search of that special someone. “Crème Brûlée” floats in this world of mixed emotions, but not without a slow feeling of progress, both lyrically and musically, until what was a gentle stirring becomes a tidal wave of feeling, and the song blows up into slow motion aural fireworks.

The band have also put together a video, which they introduce by saying:

“We couldn’t be more excited to share with you our first ever music video, for our debut single, Crème Brûlée!!!  We shot and edited it ourselves across Liverpool and North Wales (spot the Welsh flag!) with the aim to create a homemade, documentary-style piece inspired by the indie films we love. We really hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it!”

There should be much more to come from King Hannah very soon, so make sure to follow them on Bandcamp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
