Grete grew up in Lithuania, then moved to Manchester to study at the Royal Northern College of Music. Her first EP was jazzy and avant-garde, but now she’s reinventing herself in the style of The Weeknd and early Tove Lo. Her new single “Skinny Bones” is the most amazing career pivot since Dylan went from folk to rock.
“‘Skinny Bones’ is a story about strongly disliking someone, despite the song’s glitzy presentation,” says Grete. “Instead of getting stuck in negative feelings, I’d rather convey my emotions in a fun, positive way that allows me to see the brighter side and move on.”
I hope Grete releases a double album some day, with one volume containing Whitney Houston-style dance gems and the other featuring complex chords and time signatures. With her wide-ranging talent, it wouldn’t surprise me if she opened for Drake and played Carnegie Hall next year.
