Golf Alpha Bravo, the new project from Jagwar Ma singer Gab Winterfield, has just announced details concerning the release of its debut record, The Sundog LP, which is due out June 12 via Winterfield’s own Treasured Recordings label.
A love letter to a childhood growing up on the shores of Sydney, Australia which he spent skating, surfing and participating in the odd Mario Kart tournament, the album is filled with classic rock adaptations, surf rock vibrations and the vivid howl of the blues.
“The record moves between looking inward and outward, desire and respite,” reveals Winterfield. “I wanted to make something warm that grooves, something that’s deep enough to sink into, and bouncy enough to bop to. An epic journey from the comfort of your lounge, or the soundtrack to a long summer drive.”
On new single, “Stuck Being Me”, Winterfield ambles along in a dense whirl of chiming guitar lines and a voice that seems to drift by on the next breeze. The song is a easy-going tumble through sun-soaked days at the beach where friends gather together to do a full day of nothing. Lyrically, the track finds Winterfield comparing himself unfavorably to someone else he sees, trying to reconcile his own perceived flaws against the superficial perfection of the reality he has constructed around this other individual.
“At a time where we’re all spending a lot of time with no one but ourselves, ‘Stuck Being Me’ seems weirdly apt,” he explains. “I think that our greatest strengths can often be disguised as our most perceived flaws, and perhaps the lyrics reflect that.”
