Although they released an album just last year, Field Music are not wasting the downtime afforded by the pandemic and seem to be gearing up to release another in 2021 – along with a tour, with all being well. They’re foregrounding all that with a new single called “Orion From The Street”, with Peter Brewis revealing:
“I wrote it in a daze – it’s full of accidental quotes and allusions – the first couple of lines I overheard in a Cary Grant documentary but they sum up the whole song – how intense impressions of love, hate, grief and guilt can be an almost hallucinatory experience.”
A sparkling melange of synths, weightless piano, and metaphysical injections of flute, “Orion From The Street” is the perfect vessel for Peter’s disconnected imagery, bringing it all together with seamless dream logic. In a time when we all feel like we’re being knocked into a daily daze by the new twists that the world brings, Field Music actually seem to have put some order in the chaos with “Orion From The Street”. What’s more impressive is that it turns out to be a wholly positive sound, resulting in a pearl of a song that provides a perfect escape into a world where things just aren’t as heavy.
