Doechii feels a kindred connection to the sitcoms of the ’80s and ’90s, using them as a filter through which she views the last few years of her life in the new video for “Denial is a River”. Directed by Carlos Acosta and James Mackel — and featuring cameos from Zack Fox, ScHoolboy Q, Rickey Thompson, Teezo Touchdown, Earl Sweatshirt, SiR, Baby Tate and DJ Miss Milan — the clip finds her inhabiting a TV stage set that changes appearance as the years pass. The filmmakers are wholly dedicated to capturing the look and feel of these bygone TV eras, adopting filming methods to mimic the limitations of those times. The clever transition to more modern video shows that Acosta and Mackel truly understand the personal narrative that Doechii has crafted.
