Nirgeria-born, Vancouver-based artist DEBBY FRIDAY has made waves in recent years with her debut EPs, singles and last year’s short film “BARE BONES”, but she’s coming into 2021 aiming to reach a whole new level. The first new music from the project arrives today in the form of “RUNNIN'”, a bass-heavy jam about which she says:
“This new record is about pure expression. I don’t feel like I need to exorcise anything from myself anymore. I wanted to to push myself in different directions and see what would happen and I think I accomplished what I set out to do. “RUNNIN’” is a cheeky song that has DEBBY FRIDAY themes present, but now I’m having so much more fun.”
True to its name, “RUNNIN'” is a high-octane banger, where warped and clipped vocals give the song a futuristic, almost alien atmosphere, while blasts of bass act as the pulse throbbing in your ears as your heart rate increases with the song’s tension. DEBBY FRIDAY cuts an impressive figure in the midst of this, remaining cool and calm, her provocative exclamations painting a picture of someone brimming with confidence – equal parts menacing and alluring. A song that could equally soundtrack a deep night on a dark dancefloor or an intensely intimate one-on-one, “RUNNIN'” is a vision of an artist coming into their powerful own.
The video for “RUNNIN'” was shot on 35mm and co-directed by DEBBY FRIDAY and Ryan Ermacora.
