Having released a single, “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall,” and a significant number of decent b-sides in the past month or so, fans have been anticipating the announcement of the release of Coldplay’s still-to-be-named 5th studio album – their first since 2008.
Various online media outlets have popped up in the last couple of days with the date October 24th as the date Coldplay fans have been waiting for. UK’s The Sun, known for the sensationalism, dropped the tidbit in a story of Noel Gallagher’s upcoming solo album going up against Coldplay’s in a sales war. Gallagher’s album is set for an October 17th release, but The Sun claims that “a week later, on October 24, is when Coldplay have scheduled the release of their fifth collection.”
Elsewhere, various online music retailers have set up a pre-order for October 24th. These include HMV and French retailers FNAC, whereas Dutch site BOL has placed an October 28th release date on it, but Friday release dates are the usual in the Netherlands, so that suggest that the week of October 24th is correct.
All of this evidence is as yet unconfirmed by the band, but surely an announcement including a title, cover and an official release date is forthcoming.
