Christine and the Queens has released “Je te vois enfin” (“Finally I see you”), the first new music from the project since 2020’s La vita nuova. There’s also a new moniker, Redcar, in the mix, but details on how that will manifest are scant – it is, after all, difficult to change artist name when you’ve already made such headway under one name.
While not a huge step away from what we’ve come to know and love Chris for, “Je te vois enfin” finds the singer operating in more propulsive, new wave territory – aided by producer Mike Dean. Singing in French, Chris harnesses the misty and melodramatic atmosphere with a tale of longing and piety, singing to god for forgiveness and understanding. “My love rhymes with always, always! / And the choices are made,” Chris cries into the icy atmosphere – and a response comes, “At last, at last / I finally see you / Oh my love here you are I finally see you.”
