Toronto rapper Cadence Weapon has revealed the details of his new album: it’s called Parallel World and comes out on April 30 via eOne Music Canada. The news comes spearheaded with new single “SENNA”, which was produced by Jacques Greene and inspired by the titular Formula 1 driver. Cadence says:
“‘SENNA’ is inspired by legendary Brazillian F1 driver Ayrton Senna. The documentary about him from 2010 has floated in the periphery of my mind ever since I first saw it. Musically, it shares the spirit of early UK grime but what we ended up creating feels completely new. When Jacques Greene and I were in the studio working on this track and I heard the beat he was making, Senna started floating around my head like a mantra.”
With Ayrton Senna as his spirit guide and Jacques Greene as his musical one, Cadence Weapon is in full force on “SENNA”. Amidst an atmosphere of brooding dubstep-like beats and polychromatic synths that bolster his presence, Cadence is full of poise as he whips through hair-raising bars about his individuality and singular mindset. “SENNA” is quite a way for the rapper to reintroduce himself, and his hair-raising fluidity of language makes us excited for what’s to come on Parallel World.
