Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Dawn McCarthy release teaser video for What The Brothers Sang

The Making of What the Brothers Sang

We’re getting closer and closer to the release date of the latest offering of songs from occasional duo Will Oldham (aka Bonnie “Prince Billy) and Dawn McCarthy.  Their last collaboration, 2011’s Wai Notes, was an odd amalgamation of reworked songs and demos from their The Letting Go recording sessions.  For their upcoming release, the two have dug deep into The Everly Brothers discography for inspiration.  Purporting to be “inspired by and made with deep respect for The Everly Brothers,” What The Brothers Sang seems poised to be more than just a simple covers album.  Through Don and Phil Everly’s influence, we see how Oldham and McCarthy’s own music has been shaped by these two guys.

In the lead up to the album’s February 19th release date, Drag City has released a behind the scenes video which includes snippets of many of the songs on What The Brothers Sang.  Check out Oldham and McCarthy and a rotating cast of musicians as they run through various sections of these songs.  Watch the video below.
