Coming as the b-side to their limited edition “Offspring Are Black” 7″, which they produced exclusively for their show at Carnegie Hall last month, “There’s A Fire” draws on some of the same musical touchstones as last year’s impressive Swing Lo Magellan. David Longstreth takes on his usual musical grab bag of coin-purse percussion, stop-start guitar lines, and subtle reggae flourishes and toward the end of the song, we even get an odd forwards-backwards vocal sequence involving frequent Dirty Projectors band members and collaborators Amber Coffman, Haley Dekle and Olga Bell. There are unexpected turns of phrase and atypical rhythms–so essentially, if you’re a fan of their past work, you’re gonna love this. Check out the track below.
