Originally commissioned by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis toward the middle of last year, art-rock trio Brute Heart wrote and recorded an entirely new score for the 1920 German Expressionist film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. They performed the soundtrack in its entirety on various occasions backed by elaborate stage setups and extravagant visual displays. And we’re finally seeing the physical release of the music on Oakland cassette/record label Moon Glyph. You can head over to Moon Glyph’s website now to snag yourself a cassette copy of this wildly imaginative and wholly eerie score. The label has also seen fit to release one more song from this soundtrack. “Prophecy” could easily find a home in various parts of the film, and its segmented musical themes and evasive melodies make it a natural fit for the film. Enjoy the track below.
