Mica Millar gets into tantalizing “Trouble”

Make no mistake, Mica Millar wears the UK soul and blues crown. Her new single “Trouble” has an aching, Amy Winehouse-like vocal that grabs you and won’t let go. It’s the culmination of an amazing year in which Mica won “Soul Act of the Year” at the Jazz FM Awards – and the new song will no doubt be the centerpiece of her first-ever national UK tour this spring.

Mica recently packed the house at the Albert Hall in her hometown of Manchester, and her tour in May will bring her inimitable soul/blues chops to London, Liverpool and Leeds.

Millar’s previous single “Heaven Knows” had echoes of Aretha Franklin, with its classic piano triplets and 3/4 time signature.

“I love the classics,” says Millar. “That includes artists like Etta James, Ray Charles, Bobby Bland, Big Mama Thornton and many more. I also recently was introduced to Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. We spoke after receiving our awards at the Jazz FM ceremony last year. He won ‘Blues Act of The Year’ and I have since been listening to his fantastic music.”

Mica’s fans in America can only hope that she’ll follow in Dusty Springfield’s footsteps and will one day release a Mica In Memphis album.
