A year on from his spooky and compelling Apparition EP, serpentwithfeet has revealed the details of his second album: it’s called DEACON and comes out on March 26 through Secretly Canadian.
The first song serpentwithfeet has shared from the record is “Fellowship”, which was co-written and co-produced by Sampha and Lil Silva, saying “I dedicate ‘Fellowship’ to anyone who has had a good friend or been a good friend.”
True to the name and dedication, “Fellowship” is a gracious and warm hearted tune that makes use of clicking African percussion and marimba to conjure a homely and wholly comfortable space. serpent’s voice paints its usual gorgeous arabesques over this, flicking through cherished memories of times spent with close friends; watching Christmas films in July, drinking endless Prosecco. In the chorus, he sends out the simple message “I’m thankful for the love I share with my friends,” his voice joined by his collaborators’ to hammer home the undying bond between them. In an era when we can’t spend as much time with those we love as we’d like, “Fellowship” reminds us that love will prevail, and we should be eternally thankful for those we have in our lives.
