Samantha Margret makes the smart choice on “Night Jogging”

LA artist Samantha Margret’s new single “Night Jogging” asserts that what’s reasonably safe and routine for a man at night is seldom that way for a woman. She’s absolutely right about that, even though jogging through LA’s Skid Row at midnight could be problematic for just about anyone.

Recalling the song’s origin, Margret says: “I was driving in Los Angeles one night after a show, so it was maybe 10 or 11 pm and I passed this man, just jogging along the side of the road. It seemed like it would have been beautiful with all the streetlights and the cool, night air. Then I realized that if it were me jogging on this street at this hour, I would have been afraid. It made me think about all the situations where one person’s pleasant evening outing is another person’s anxiety-fueled odyssey. The song is a depiction both lyrically and musically of the ways that fear taints otherwise lovely activities and spaces.”

Samantha’s career got its first big boost with 2020’s “Feminist GF”, followed by last year’s haunting “RAGE”. The latter features a Stanley Kubrick-caliber video that’s impossible to watch just once.

Samantha’s music has depth and power that few artists can match. I urge you to add all her great songs to your playlist… but don’t jog to them after sunset.
