NIKI has been teasing the release of her debut full-length Moonchild, and while we still don’t know when it’ll be released, today she grips us even more with “Selene”. The new song is a crucial piece in the story of her upcoming album which tells the tale of the titular protagonist Moonchild, as she explains:
“It’s about pure sensuality and femininity. I wanted to create a song specifically about the Goddess of the Moon who possesses Moonchild for a brief moment of naiveté and recklessness.”
The newfound sensuality and femininity infuses “Selene” with a pure glistening energy, and NIKI rides it with a lightness of touch that makes it utterly addictive. Slinky and stylish, NIKI is front and centre of this sparkling production, showing off her dextrous vocal abilities; you can feel the power of the Goddess of the Moon flowing out of her in the harp plucks, licks of bass and even injections of brass that twirl and dance all around her. “Selene” is a pure delight that shows us a classy and poised side of NIKI, and leaves us wanting to hear Moonchild even more.
