It’s been four years since Rilo Kiley released their last album Under The Blacklight and despite getting mixed messages, fans had always held out a little hope that their current absence from music would only be a temporary hiatus. In just April this year guitarist Blake Sennet teased fans with an analogy of Rilo Kiley as a corpse, saying “I would say that if Rilo Kiley were…hmmm…a human being…hmmm…he’s probably laying on his back in a morgue with a tag on his toe. Now, I see movies where the dead get up and walk. And when they do that, rarely do good things happen.”
Today Sennet has put the final nail in Rilo Kiley’s coffin, with an official announcement of the band’s split. Sennet stated:
“I just felt like there was a lot of deception, disloyalty, greed and things I don’t really want to submit myself to. I had related that frustration to music but I just thought, ‘I’m not going to put myself in that position again,’ so I said, ‘Fuck that, I can’t do this anymore”
The rarities collection that we previewed in our second half of 2011 feature is still on the cards though, “I think we’re going to try and release a two-disc set of 40 songs, or something. I think that can be more considered like our last release, to me.” says Sennet.
Jenny Lewis has yet to make a public comment as she is currently on tour with her new outfit Jenny and Johnny.
