Packaging Review: Bruce Springsteen – Working On A Dream

Full packaging review (video + pictures) after the jump:

Working On A Dream is without a doubt one of Bruce Springsteen’s best as far as packaging goes. I will be reviewing the Deluxe Edition, which comes with a bonus making of the album DVD.

Upon opening, the first thing I noticed was the odd the size of the packaging. Usually deluxe editions will be the same size as a jewel case, just thicker. However, this album comes in a mini book format. Like digipacks, it is unfortunately cardboard. However, they did a great job with it, because the whole thing is really thick and feels sturdy. It’s actually quite big in size (bigger then a jewel case). Because of the cardboard, the album art really shines with higher quality print. What is probably the best thing about the Deluxe edition is how they made the lyric book. They stapled it to the side of the package (with binding) – so it literally opens like the book. The lyric book itself is gorgeous – vibrant colors and great photography that really goes along with the themes of the album.

When I first saw the album art, I wasn’t too thrilled. But now that I have the packaging in person, and can see the whole thing spread out, it really is quite stunning. From images of Bruce walking in field with a backdrop of stars in the sky to the silhouette of outlaw Pete draped over his steed – it all has a dream like quality. This is one of the best packages I have seen in a long time. I highly recommend the Deluxe Edition, as it is made with high quality that really makes the albums experience that much better.
