MP3: Japandroids – “Younger Us”

Japandroids, the Canadian garage-gods, have announced their second seven-inch single of 2010, Younger Us, to be released on July 16. While they’re preoccupied with touring behind the 2009 album of the year contender Post-Nothing, Japandroids are releasing a series of five singles on Polyvinyl Records featuring covers and unreleased material from the Post-Nothing sessions.

The newest single features the energy-filled, hook-driven nostalgia-fest “Younger Us,” which was released for free download, and is backed with a cover of X’s “Sex and Dying in High Society.”

You can grab the a-side, which I’ve had on repeat for a while, right here:

MP3: Japandroids – Younger Us

“Younger Us” seems to be an alternate version of Post-Nothing standout “Young Hearts Spark Fire.” The two songs have similar themes, and some of the guitar parts are pretty much identical.

The first 7″ featured the fuck-you anthem “Art Czars” b/w a cover of post-hardcore band Big Black’s “Racer-X.” It sold out way before it was released, so if you’re interested in a copy of Younger Us (which is pressed on clear vinyl and limited to 2500 copies), you best be getting over to the Polyvinyl store to pre-order one right away.

Unfortunately, Japandroids are done touring in the United States for a while, so if you’re a Yank who missed out on their excellent live show, you’ll just have to wait until they decide to drop another brilliant album on us.

If you’re living in Europe or Canada, though, you’re in luck:
