MP3: Family Trees – “Dream Talkin”

Family Trees come from Brooklyn, like a lot of pretty good (and just as many pretty forgettable) bands today seem to. The trio say their influences include Yes, The Beach Boys, and The Microphones, and the songs that I’ve heard from them all make that pretty clear. Anyone who references Phil Elvrum well is more than okay in my book.

Their latest is a 7″ on the boutique Father/Daughter Records called Dream Talkin, and the title track is a pop gem that clocks in at under 2:00. On that song, the band combine an excellent melody with relaxed vocals and plenty of delicious ooh-ooh-ooohs. You can order the 3-track single from the company right here, but first you might want to check out the mp3:

If you’re diggin’ that, you can stream a few more tracks on their MySpace, and the band is kindly offering some quality mp3s from their impossible-to-find self-released debut album, Windbreaker, here. They also maintain a pretty entertaining blog that will keep you up to date on their tours and releases.

Family Trees are embarking on a “baby tour” today with some other great acts including the Eternal Summers:

Family Trees Tour Dates:
June 17 – Baltimore, MD – Tater Junction
June 18 – Charlottesville, VA – Tea Bazaar
June 19 – Richmond, VA – Strange Matter
June 20 – Roanoke, VA – Pot Luck Picnic Party Jam

They’ll also be appearing at We Listen For You‘s showcase at Brooklyn’s Northside Fest on June 26.
