MP3: Crocodiles – “Sleep Forever”

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been anxiously anticipating the new Crocodiles album due out later this year. The follow up to last year’s thoroughly under-appreciated Summer of Hate is being produced in part by Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford, which is both good and bad news. Ford’s resume includes Artic Monkey, Klaxons, and Peaches, but the electro-minded Ford brings a new attitude to Crocodiles.

“Sleep Forever” is the first single off the upcoming album, and it’s certainly more approachable to the average listener than the noisier Summer of Hate ever was. Not that the new single is disappointing, just that it’s different, and Ford’s influence on the track is certainly noticeable. The vocal harmonies are instantly clear, something that was virtually unrecognizable on last year’s lo-fi album.

With the resurgence of lo-fi and noise pop since 2009’s Summer of Hate, it’s certainly interesting to note this change in demeanor. Have Crocodiles turned their back on the genre they helped popularized just one year ago? Grab the new single and decide for yourself. [Via]
